100th Photo Accepted on Dreamstime: Church

On the advice of some of my more successful microstock-submitting friends, I started submitting photos everyday to Dreamstime since last month. My portfolio went from 20 to 100 photos. I hope that Dreamstime eventually performs as well as Shutterstock, but I know that I'll need volume and quality to get there. My goal for this year is 600 photos on Dreamstime. Microstock Photo of the Day: Archerfish!

One thing that I have been told time and time again about Microstock is that volume matters. As long as you are maintaining high quality photos that people can use (no noise at 100% viewing, correct exposure, good lighting, no artifacts, good use of Rule of Thirds, etc.), then just start uploading those photos like there is no tomorrow.

While this has been mainly a Shutterstock-oriented blog, my recent sale of the above photo at Dreamstime has shown me the error my ways. I actually joined Dreamstime way before Shutterstock, but because the sales weren't encouraging, I let my uploads lapse. On the advice of a fellow microstock contributer, I uploaded 50 photos to Dreamstime in late 2008. Since sales were not as immediate as Shutterstock, I let my uploading activity lapse again.

Well, today I check my stats at Dreamstime and find that this photo had been downloaded for an exclusive license of $22.32 on 12/23/2008. I am absolutely jubilant about this. I'm going to be uploading my Shutterstock portfolio to Dreamstime over the next several months.

I love my 100-400 EF L. Even if you stay stock still for an hour, animals tend to maintain their distance from you. But if you can get razor sharp focus from half a football field back, you chances of getting "wild candids" is very high.

Once again I congratulate Barack Obama on his successful election to the office of President of the United States. Good job, Barack, now the hard work begins.

The photograph of the day today is a plaque written in Chinese characters which reads, "Gate of Brilliant Governance." Asians in ancient times and present often placed plaques above entrances to important administrative and religious buildings to inspire them to remember the ideals which their societies are founded upon.

I wouldn't mind seeing some American Gilded Age plaques brought back, such as "Impossible is un-American." Barack did it. We did it. Time to set things right in America and the World. God bless America.
