Microstock Just Sold: Tower of Glass

I'm sure you're all familiar with this building by now, since it's been featured several times on this blog already. That's right, it's the Enron Building. Even if you're taking photos of the same thing everyday, try to do something different every time. Get in close, go far away and take a panorama, or focus on one aspect of what you photographed before. Works for me, as folks are eating my Enron pics up.

100th Photo Accepted on Dreamstime: Church

On the advice of some of my more successful microstock-submitting friends, I started submitting photos everyday to Dreamstime since last month. My portfolio went from 20 to 100 photos. I hope that Dreamstime eventually performs as well as Shutterstock, but I know that I'll need volume and quality to get there. My goal for this year is 600 photos on Dreamstime. What sites are the best earners for you?

Shutterstock Payout for February 2009: $98.27

I've been very short on time recently, so I'm going to dispense with the fancy excel spreadsheets this month and just tell you what payout I'll be getting for February 2009: $98.27.

The photo above is one of my best sellers, probably netting nearly $30 all by itself since I started submitting to Shutterstock.

Create a few knock-out photos, and they should provide you perpetual income for years to come. This photo, along with a few others that I will introduce every month, have certainly done that for me.

Steady Seller: Office Interior

This has been a long-time favorite of many of my customers. Press this link to go and purchase it.

Which do you like better?

Microstock Photo Just Sold: Lots 'o Coins

Coins isolated on white.

Microstock Photo Sold: Dollar Hitting Bottom

This has been a popular seller for obvious reasons. I guess one silver lining in this crappy economy is that pictures which depict the crappy economy will sell well. Show me your "tanking econ" pics!

Microstock Photo Just Sold: Money, Money, Money

This was just sold on Shutterstock. With money (or lack of it) on everyone's mind, these are the photos to be shooting. Show me your money shots!

Microstock Photo of the Day: Archerfish!

One thing that I have been told time and time again about Microstock is that volume matters. As long as you are maintaining high quality photos that people can use (no noise at 100% viewing, correct exposure, good lighting, no artifacts, good use of Rule of Thirds, etc.), then just start uploading those photos like there is no tomorrow.

While this has been mainly a Shutterstock-oriented blog, my recent sale of the above photo at Dreamstime has shown me the error my ways. I actually joined Dreamstime way before Shutterstock, but because the sales weren't encouraging, I let my uploads lapse. On the advice of a fellow microstock contributer, I uploaded 50 photos to Dreamstime in late 2008. Since sales were not as immediate as Shutterstock, I let my uploading activity lapse again.

Well, today I check my stats at Dreamstime and find that this photo had been downloaded for an exclusive license of $22.32 on 12/23/2008. I am absolutely jubilant about this. I'm going to be uploading my Shutterstock portfolio to Dreamstime over the next several months.

What photos have done really for you? Please do tell.

Microstock Photo of the Day: A Poet and his Muse

Microstock Photo of the Day: Meerkats!

Meerkats! I wish that these guys were available as pets, since they are SO adorable.

Microstock Photo of the Day: Steaks on the Pit

Microstock Photo of the Day: Koi Feeding

I love my 100-400 EF L. Even if you stay stock still for an hour, animals tend to maintain their distance from you. But if you can get razor sharp focus from half a football field back, you chances of getting "wild candids" is very high.

Where do your pictures show up?

I came across one of my pictures on the Pascal Travel Club's website today. What about you? Where has your microstock photography popped up? Blogs? Billboards? Do tell.

Microstock Photo of the Day (Wednesday, January 28, 2009)

Elephant.

Microstock Photo of the Day: Thursday, January 8, 2008

Well, it's been quite a while since I've posted to this blog. For that I apologize. Work hit me really hard towards the end of last year. The huge drop-off in sales at Shutterstock put kind of damper on editing photographs every day. This is one of my favorite recent microstock contributions, and also one of the most popular at this moment. Enjoy.
